Today’s marketer has an abundance of data, technology and automation tools at their disposal. But more shiny toys don't necessarily make better decisions.

I sat down with long-time friend and colleague Danny Fishman, co-founder and Partner at The Room, a private forum for senior marketing leaders, to discuss what actually helps marketers make better calls on brand, performance and growth marketing?

Here are a few snippets from our conversation.

1. Your reporting tells you what happened. What about tomorrow?

Most marketing reports explain what has already happened. Predictive marketing helps teams forecast what is likely to happen next.

By combining historical performance with market demand, competitive activity, economic conditions and other signals, marketers can confidently predict how changes in investment could affect revenue before they commit spend, not after the fact.

‍

2. Give marketing data a destination

You rarely need another dashboard. Start with where you're trying to go, then work out which decisions get you there.

We built GPS to connect media, customer, market and business data in one forward-looking system. The goal is to identify the signals that matter and forecast where the next marketing dollar is likely to work hardest.

3. Connect brand and performance

Brand and performance are not competing priorities.

Brand builds demand, strengthens preference and contributes to future revenue. Performance captures that demand efficiently. Both work toward the same outcome: driving revenue and gaining market share.

‍

4. Cut through the data noise

Every channel, platform and partner produces its own version of performance. There is enough information to support almost any story.

What's harder is figuring out which signals matter and what next best action to take.

Data becomes more valuable when it shows how marketing outcomes contribute to business growth, what drives performance and what is likely to happen next.

The goal is to see what matters early enough to act on it in time.

‍

5. AI + human expertise

When 95% of marketing can be automated, the human 5% matters more than ever.

Technology can process information, identify patterns and execute routine tasks at a scale no team can match. What it cannot do is decide which problem is worth solving, notice when the data is missing context, or know when experience says look again.

‍

6. Advice to CMOs: Focus the organization

Marketing leaders struggle with competing priorities. It takes discipline to prioritize what matters most, align the right resources, and trust people to do the work.

Setting a clear objective gives your data a purpose. It helps teams separate useful signals from distractions and evaluate ideas against the outcome your business needs.

Focus the organization. Equip the people. Trust their judgment.

‍

Creating a clearer view of what drives growth

The future of performance marketing is not more data, more dashboards or more automation. It is predictive intelligence in the hands of experienced people who know what to do with it.
